My daughter is a vegiterrean and we are going to Disneyland on her birthday. Is Napa Rose a good place to go?
Napa Rose, Disneyland?
The last time I was there, I ordered spaghetti even though it wasn't listed on the menu because they only had a few other vegetarian options. I hear that their menu changes often, though, so maybe you could ask for a menu before you are seated.
Reply:I have never been to the Napa Rose restaurant, but Disney is pretty good about having vegetarian options at all their dining places. Plus the food is inspired by Napa Valley food, and they can be pretty health conscious up there, so I think it should be fine. The Napa Rose is in the Grand Californian hotel, so it would be a very nice place for dinner one night, though very expensive...but a great experience!
However, if you are in the park, there are plenty of options there for lunchtime. If you want a really nice lunch, the absolute best place to go is the Blue Bayou, which is the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It overlooks the water at the beginning of the ride, and if you sit out on the patio there are stars above and crickets that chirp...it's so nice! The staff is great, and the setting is one of the best in the park with the best atmosphere, whether you're looking for something romantic or just a place to share with your family. Plus the menu is pretty extensive, so vegetarian options are not hard to find, as well as meat options so everyone can enjoy it.
My other favorite places to eat in Disneyland (and I'm a vegetarian as well!) is Pizza Port by Space Mountain. It's themed on the pizza place in Toy Story, and has huge slices of pizza and salads. It's pretty casual, so a nice place to stop if you are tired of waiting in lines. There's also some nice places in the French quarter, and if you time it right you can be there while the band is around, and they toss out mardi gras beads, and play some great music while you eat. They also have some great new orleans food out there, from gumbo (both shrimp and vegetarian in bread bowls), and mint juleps (great drinks!), etcetera. Furthermore the french quarter is right next to the water where Tom Sawyer's island is located, and close to attractions like the Haunted Mansion, so you can hop on a slow ride after lunch to let your food settle!
Finally, if you're looking for a great dessert, the Plaza Inn on main street has some great strawberry shortbreads and other cakes. When you head there you put all that you want on your tray, and the main courses include things such as veggie pastas, and then meat for those that would like that. And the desserts, once again, they are amazing! The view from the Plaza Inn isn't too nice, but it's very comfortable inside, so that's a bonus.
Hopefully this helps. I've been to Disneyland more times than I can count, and I could probably write an entire paper on the food alone! But I'll spare you and just leave it at this...have fun!
Oh, and don't forget to stop and pick up a birthday sticker for your daughter. You don't necessairily get anything by wearing it, except for lots of congratulations. Sometimes the cast members on rides will also sing happy birthday to you, getting the other park goers to sing along! They're great at Disneyland at making you feel special, especially on your birthday, no matter your age. Don't miss it!
