Rose petals?

what happens when you put rose petals in a big book and close it and don't open it for a long time? and is there anyway to keep a flower for a long time?

Rose petals?
i hang mine upside down to dry. and then place in glass jar that way i can see them and i make a nice backround in the jar for what they are from. that way i can remember why i saved them.. i did this for the flowers from my daughter's baby shower. and added the corsage i had... and some of the glitter from the tables.. it was a very nice way to preserve them so my daughter can have them when she gets older. just dry them out decorate how you wish and place lid on tightly... good luck!
Reply:for keeping the best color on a rose that your want to save, the best preservation method is as mentioned by others...hang it upside down in a dark DRY location. Buds do well and most roses should be dried before they are fully opened or they will have a tendency to lose the petal after drying. You can also use silica gel as an alternative if you do not have an area that is dry and ventilated. When they are dried, I would suggest getting an aerosol sealer to spray them to keep dust and mites from deteriorating the flowers.

THe advantage to using silia gel is that it is a powder that you can place the flower in a jar and fill it slowly with the gel. THis helps to hold the shape of the flower as it was when you placed in in the container. When hanging roses upside down to dry, sometimes the petals will continue to open and the shape will not hold true. ALso the leaves will curl and do not always do well. Flowere presses work well for pressing as the paper used is highly absorbant which draws the moisture out and the courrugated boards allow for some air circulation while drying.
Reply:You might ruin the book. If the book isn't heavy enough, they might grow a bit of mold. Try pressing them in between newspapers then cardboard. Put them between heavy books instead of in them. You should be changing the newspapers fairly frequently too. It helps to take the moisture away.
Reply:Before you do so, spray the petals with hairspray. This will help preserve them. Hang upside down to dry After a few days and they are dried out you can place them in an album or a keepsake or a book in between wax paper. If you are looking to preserve regular flowers for a longer period of time try this: add 1/2TBSP bleach ( to kill bacteria) 1/4 cup of lime soda(to preserve and feed) and 1 baby aspirin (to help keep veins open) to the water that the flowers are sitting in. Believe me it works. If your water gets a little cloudy and your flowers still look okay, change and add ingredients once again! :)
Reply:try placing your rose petals or rose between layers of wax paper, protects both the book and the flower from mold and discloration.I've also dried flowers in catlitter.Makes for a nice decor to put in a vase or garden pot for the patio.
Reply:i did this,i bought a clear acrylic finish in the art supplies section of wal mart,it's a spray, take the flower you want to preserve in the back yard and spray it,and i take wax paper sheets and put my flowers in those that i want to press in books between pages.
Reply:the book gets mouldy where the rose petals were...and if they're red roses, it will stain the paper red...

you can dry flowers by hanging them upside down in a dry place and leaving them alone till they dry out...
Reply:The best way to keep them alive a long time is to cut the stems at an angle, and immedietly place them in cool water with either sugar or plant food. If you want them to keep their shape, hang them upside down to dry. I think that two wooden blocks are the best thing for pressing flowers.
Reply:The rose petals you place inside a book will dry up and die-no moisture and air-cut flowers are difficult to maintain for a long time unless you glaze them.
