Rose bush has dead leaves?

I pruned my rose bush last winter, it started to have green leaves early this spring and then we had a hard freeze. The leaves are now all brown. Is the bush dead, or should I try to prune it back some more?

Yikes! put the pruners away for now. Your rose may still be struggling to live; give it a little time and warm weather. If the stems are still green, it may put out new growth. If this is a grafted rose and the leaves sprout below the graft, it will not look the same as what you bought, since you will in fact have the rootstock but not the grafted desirable plant.

Resist the urge to winter prune - wait until spring next year. The plant will be more likely to survive. It may be fine; be patient - - I would let it sit until the end of June before I yanked it out. Good luck!
Reply:Hello,

I doubt that your rose bush is dead. Just trim the browin leaves. It will grow back and have beautiful blooms. Check out the rose section on secilysgardentips.com there is a great section with articles on rose gardening.

Best Wishes for beautiful Roses,

Reply:No don't prune until the threat of frosts are over. Roses are pretty hardy plants so wait and see if new growth comes on when the weather becomes warmer. When the frosts are over then you could prune off the frost bitten areas.

Here in Australia it's mid July when we prune so I imagine it would be late January for USA. I

Another way of pruning is when you cut a rose bloom cut it with a long stem and by doing this during the year you may not need to prune end of winter.
Reply:wait till next year theyll be great.
