Rose Bush Help?

I have a rose bush in the backyard that has been neglected for a long time (before we moved in), it still blooms but only has a few branches. What is the best way to trim and replenish the bush.

Rose Bush Help?
1) Wait until late October. You do not want to stimulate growth during a heatwave. Wait until plants are dormant.

then

2) Remove all dead canes.

3) Cut all branches out of the bottom except for 2 or 3 of the strongest.

Tip: Spread a little Elmer's white glue or clear nail polish over cut ends to keep borers out.

4) Only top the remaining branches 2/3 of their original height. ex) Plants are 6 feet, cut 4 feet off.

5). Remove all dead and cut material to trash to prevent disease.

6) Mulch roses well after removing any grass from an 8"-12" radius around base.

then

7) In Spring, feed with a systemic fertilizer + pest killer such as Bayer or Ortho.

8) Keep well-watered, but only in the early mornings.

finally

Repeat process every year.

Reply:depending on your climate, I waould cut it back right before fall, and it should come back beautiful in the spring. Every year i do this. it also depends on the rose to. Mine are climbing roses.
Reply:I had the same problems when we moved to our new house. Nothing had been pruned in years and I cut everything back to about a foot tall. They went crazy and are now gorgeous.
Reply:ok:

wait till fall and cut it back in a sort of round shape

not just any old way and make the brancches shorter

toward the outside section

picture a dandeline or a puff ball shape

then trim as they grow

also;

do not toss the cut branches i gropw new roses from those i insert them into a good ground shove them in the ground they will root[ mine do] then when they grow strong enough [after one season] transplant the baby plants when they get roots usually takes two seasons...
