Black rose as a gift?

I was given a black, or rather dark red, rose 12 yrs ago for my 17th. do u reckon that that was a romantic gesture? u don't just go round giving roses, or do u?

A black rose means death and a red rose means love. If the guy gave you a dark red rose, I think he was telling you he was in love with you. Besides that it was 12 yrs age on your birthday. Why does it really matter now?



Edit - just read you dilemma. If his wife knows and he is a family friend there is no problem. If he was your teacher then it was inappropriate unless he gave everyone a gift on there birthday. Very creepy and I understand why you are freaked out. As a teacher he is not allowed to give you a personal gift and a red rose has alot of symbolism. Sounds like he was trying to be romantic.
